Currently, in my paintings I use an encaustic wax surface to transfer photographic images and to inscribe playful intuitive mark making, to build up surface in layer upon layer.

A camera goes with me everywhere. Im taking snapshots of life, almost a visual diary of what interests me, my paintings always in mind. These later become my library, to thoughtfully become part of my process. I use the the wax to play with these layers of life's expression

I see life and human beings as such complex unfathomable layers and entities with so many overlays, different beliefs and conditionings, quirks and nuances... everyone such individual characters, experiences so fascinating, so much to know, or is it to un- know, so many intricacies, layers, shadows.

I consider the semi-transparency of the wax as my parallel to express this mysterious complexity, life's uncertainties, my way of controlling what gets to be seen or left in the shadows.

Im always drawn very much to the ordinary, not posing life to look some absqured shiny social media driven reality but just simply raw data as it is, then put together in ways that visually inspire and satisfy me.

I can never plan how a painting will turn out, just like in life... I can only start... the same way I can never predict how I will feel tomorrow. I can influence the direction but never be in complete control, and why would I want that anyway? Life is far too mysterious, absurd and sublime for that.

I know when its finished but until then, each layer that is added will change the one before so there is always an element of risk at each stage.
